Subaru Is Launching A Nurburgring Assault With A New Time-Attack WRX STI
Subaru America has confirmed a new high-performance special edition of the WRX STI, with its eyes on a very quick Nurburgring lap time.
The WRX STI Type RA NBR Special, to give the car its full name, has been showcased as a ‘time attack’ racer in the video above. Full details of the production version are coming next week, although it’s confirmed that the UK won’t be getting it at all. Boo, hiss, etc. It’s marked out by red detailing in the grille, extra bonnet vents and a pretty big rear wing. It looks proper.
By the looks of it, the rear wing has a drag-reduction function for faster top speeds, which should help the car on its way to an eye-opening lap time or two. It might already have posted a rapid time but for terrible weather at the Nurburgring on the NBR Special’s first visit in May. Part of the on-track footage above was filmed in truly ridiculous rainfall.
Actual details are few and far between at this stage, but we do know that the car in the video is based on the production machine, but with – at the very least – racing tyres and extra aero trim. It has been stripped out and plumbed with a hefty-looking roll cage. We’ll bring you more when we get it.
