Surely A 205bhp Infiniti Crossover Can't Be Faster Than A Porsche 928 On Track?
Motor Trend's comparison between Porsche's 30-year-old super GT and the Infiniti QX30S is the sort of sign of progress that'll make you want to lie down on the floor and cry. A lot
I’ll have to admit, the QX30S is the sort of car that doesn’t interest me in the least. So a review of such a car wouldn’t grab my attention either, but those clever chaps at Motor Trend gave their test a unique slant - they raced the car against a Porsche 928 S4.
The result isn’t a terribly comfortable one for petrolheads to watch. But hey, don’t be too down on the 928: chassis technology has come a long way in 30 years, and age won’t help the old V8 GT car much either.
Oh, and I’m sure almost all of us would rather own the Porsche…

I guess you could say it’s infinitely better.

Q xcuses from all the Porsche fanboy
My reaction to the Porsche 928 losing:
So in 30 years we should have a fwd infiniti faster around a track than a 918. It’s easy to see how unimaginable it would have seemed in the 80s
Nah, in 30 years we should have a fwd crossover faster than a 135i.
The 928 wasn’t the top of range hypercar, the 959 was.
I don’t understand why you should “lie down and cry.” It is a positive sign of progress and show that today’s mass market hot hatchbacks can battle some of the fastest car 30 years ago.
*hot crossovers
Exactly if you truly like cars you should appreciate all cars and not discredit another car just because its faster than the car you like
Tiggered.
You were so triggered that you spelled it wrong :P
Also I have to say I don’t appreciate this sour and bitterness towards crossovers and SUVs in the whole petrolhead community. The condescending tone of Matt Robinson towards crossover in this passage is a perfect example. First and foremost, QX30S is a hatchback. Just because Infiniti USA is not bothered to have an extra “Q30” product line and call it a “crossover” does not mean that QX30S is a crossover. The exact same vehicle is badged as Q30 and sold as a hatchback in Europe. It is fair to assume that the word “crossover” led to this disdainful paragraph. If it is marketed as a hatchback, this passage will probably be dramatically different.
Secondly, why should you be sad even when a crossover beat a supercar from 30 years ago? Like I said in previous comment, it is a positive sign of advancement. It show that the performance that could only be enjoyed by a small niche of people 30 years ago is now reachable for normal enthusiast. It is something a car reviewers should be proud of, not to be commented with such a biased and acrimonious tone. I can only guess somebody is very sour after the classic supercar they always craved upon is beaten by a “crossover” they viewed with disdain eyes with ease.
Gotta say it looked like the infinity was driving a bit tighter to the apex than the Porsche, but I’m no expert
Clarkson wouldn’t agree
Anybody else think Infiniti has been MASSIVELY underrated and overlooked in recent years?
I guess so, and I believe it was because of their previous styling. They were neither bad nor something special. I believe the new exterior will change the way people look at them
I build these in the uk plant
I used to work there a little over a year ago. :)
Congratulations on getting the new X-Trail at the plant!
