The Suzuki Celerio Just Failed A Brake Test At 80mph And Has Been Recalled

Imagine for one moment that you’re travelling at 80mph. Imagine you start to brake firmly. Then imagine the brakes do absolutely nothing. This is what happened to an Autocar journalist, as the publication has uncovered a serious issue with a Suzuki Celerio during a test at Millbrook Proving Ground.

According to the publication’s report, during a full force braking test at 80mph, the brake pedal became stuck in the fully depressed position, and had absolutely no effect on the car’s speed. Fortunately, through the careful use of engine braking and the handbrake, the car was safely brought to a stop.

Unsurprisingly, Suzuki has taken this failure very seriously, launching an investigation and quickly recalling the car. In a statement, Suzuki said:

As a direct result of this investigation and with immediate effect, Suzuki is recalling its UK Celerio models that went on official sale to the public on February 1st. This safety recall relates to retraction of the brake pedal and affects Right Hand Drive vehicles for UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand
