Swapping A Pristine NSX For A Broken Ferrari F355 Is Stupid Idea, Or Is It?

Tyler Hoover has made what might just be his boldest used car decision yet, but if it pays off...

We like Tyler Hoover because he makes the kind of used car buying choices we just don’t have the balls/financial irresponsibility to make. Given the bravery, we’d all love to buy something like a $7500 BMW 850i or a 243,000-mile Porsche ‘996’ 911 Carrera, wouldn’t we?

What we have here though is perhaps Mr Hoover’s bravest roll of the used car dice yet: he’s traded an extremely tidy Acura NSX - plus $10,000 - for a Ferrari F355. Which is currently broken.

The F355 already has a reputation for being temperamental plus hideously expensive to fix and maintain, but from the sounds of it, this one is particularly troublesome. The latest issue to take it off the road was a coolant leak, so it could just be a case of replacing a hose, or it might need the kind of engine work that’s possible only if you remortgage your house first.

If it’s the former though, Tyler has a lot to gain - after all, the used Ferrari market it utterly bonkers right now. This is definitely a project to follow…

Wait, so, lemme get this straight: This guy traded a perfectly fine NSX and 10 grand for a Ferrari that is known to have a lot of issues? I can see the potential, but a newer Ferrari that isn’t as messed up would’ve been a less risky investment.

But hey, I don’t flip cars, so don’t quote me on this lmao

… just forcing myself to look at the bright-side to this…

I guess now someone else gets to enjoy the joy of owning and driving an NSX and on the other side a gearhead gets something wrench on.

He’s going to get a ton of views from the corresponding video. Not exactly a loss in my book

Sometimes I wonder if Tyler has a brain or not… That or the inherent masochistic pleasure to subject himself to excruciating pain (financially) and make content for us sadistic petrolheads 😂😂😂

What we really should be following is Tavarish’s Gallardo project car

That isn’t anything compared to this though. The 355 cant be fixed cheaply like that twin turbo gallardo

It’s like cutting off one of your legs for an extra finger on each hand imo

Okay, yes, he traded an NSX for a ferrari, but he couln’t’ve gotten something a bit more… I dunno, modern? The NSX alone is worth 50,000 to 85,000 dollars, give or take depending on options, minor flaws, buyer/seller, ect, But an F355? I found a 360 for 60 grand, and an F430 for 79, so 10 grand on top of the NSX could’ve easily gotten him one. Now I understand that throwing keys, and that sort of thing is hard to do in the collector and high end car market, and most F430s and 360s are in the hands of collectors or rich guys with no desire for a 1990’s honda coupe, but still, I’d keep the NSX.

Where have you taken that NSX value from? He even said in the video that he had trouble selling it for 30ish (IIRC) US$, which is why he traded it in for the Ferrari.

I’m still upset that he got rid of the NSX. That also was the first car of his I replicated in forza horizon 3 which would be more but, well they don’t have the exact cars. Why don’t they have a 996 911 in the game. Ughhh

Ok, i love this channel, but he could have kept the nsx for personal use, he has so many other cars to make videos on. I guess a 355 is intresting, but to sell a NSX for it..?

I like the idea of this. That NSX is practically pristine; so I’d be scared to even sit in the thing. That’s where the Ferrari comes in. Being troublesome more than likely a good few parts aren’t original or factory, leaving the mod potential wide open.
