We know what to expect when it comes to ambitious start-up supercars. A bold and in places unusual design, a promise of big performance, and a V8 mounted in the middle, probably of the LS variety. However, this effort from Italian firm Tecnicar only ticks two of those boxes: it’s apparently very fast and has dramatic styling, but there’s no LS V8 here; this thing will be an all-electric supercar.

As you may have gathered from the presence of 3D renderings (which have been made by Angelo Granata, the same chap who created those stunning modern-day Integrale pics last year) in the place of real pictures, this car doesn’t actually exist yet. It is supposedly undergoing construction at the moment, and will pack an electric motor capable of 789bhp.

This would send the car from 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 186mph. It’ll also have a range of 186 miles, assuming this car ever becomes reality. Details are scarce, and there’s no word on price or any anticipated release date.

Tecnicar does have plenty of experience in making electric vehicles, but that experience lies in the building of things like the electric tourist train you can see above, and mobility vehicles for the disabled.

Time will tell if Tecnicar can make this a huge and frankly bizarre leap from trundling tourist-mobiles and mobility scooters to Ferrari-baiting hypercars. Past experience of ambitious supercar projects suggests probably not, but we say good luck to ‘em. After all, who doesn’t like an underdog?
