Tesla Model 3 Reservations Now At 325,000, Giving '$14 Billion' Future Sales

With CEO Elon Musk stating last week that Model 3 reservations had already hit 276,000 just a few days after the car’s reveal, it was already clear that Tesla had well and truly smashed it. A week on however, and the full extent of the car’s early success has been revealed.

In a statement, Tesla announced that it has taken 325,000 deposits thus far, which amounts to “$14 billion in implied future sales”. To further hammer home the achievement, the company said that the Model 3 represents the “single biggest one-week launch of any product ever”, also pointing out that it did this without any advertising whatsoever.

It’s all looking good so far, but we’ll have to wait and see if the car measures up. So far we know that prices in the USA start at $35,000 before incentives, and even the slowest model will do 0-60mph in around six seconds. Rear and four-wheel drive versions will be available, and the range will be 215 miles and up depending on which one you go for. It’ll go into production early next year.

For me as a petrolhead - this is very good news. More electric cars on streets equals more gas for us.

I know like 5 people getting Model 3s personally. And there are lines outside of Tesla that is like 200 people long. This is like the Nintendo DS all over again! :D

It can out-hoon most performance models. As soon as insane/ludicrous updates pour in you’re looking at a 4 second 0-100 car.

Just don’t cry when electric cars mean this is all you’re allowed to have. Don’t be delusional.

All and all this is a good deal, especially with them offering an all wheel drive version. Drive this as your daily and I believe these new electric cars have their place in a petrol heads heart.

Honestly electric cars just aren’t there yet… Plug in hybrids is really the best we’re gonna get realistically right now. The volt gets better mpge than the model s but has no range anxiety

Good for Tesla. I don’t like Tesla at all, not my thing.

Would definitely consider buying one if I had the money, but I would almost just keep the money and save up more until I have enough for a Model S P90D
