These Freaky Omni-Capable Wheels Would Make Parallel Parking Stupidly Easy
While the surfaces of these prototype rims - built by the uploader himself - seem to be slick and therefore useless for the road, he claims that they “can have the same build characteristics (siping, grooves, rubber compounds etc.) as regular tires”. What’s particularly interesting is the wheels are bolt-on items on a regular Toyota Echo which hasn’t needed to be modified to accept them.
It does seem like a cool concept, but we’d want to know exactly how much they weigh - you’d think the new rims would be on the heavy side, adding a hell of a lot of unsprung mass.
Creator William Liddiard calls these “proof of concept prototypes”, so it’ll be interesting to see how he develops the idea.

This concept would definitely be used in car showroom dealers in the future! Rotating cars is a lot more attractive than static, stone cold, parked cars..

Wow. I hope the maker of these wheels doesnt have a CarThrottle account because if it were me, id be pretty heartbroken reading these comments. While 99.7% of you are crashing cars in Forza and posting GTRs in your garage, this guy spent years and who knows how many dollars devolping something you couldnt imagine making. Everytime a new technogoly is introduced (autonomous cars, EVs, DCTs, etc) the unlicensed 12 year olds of HateThrottle are here to preach of the purity of driving and how innovation is bad…like your car (or the car you wish you had) doesnt have power steering, a radio, cruise control, valve timing etc….
