These New Teasers Reveal The Four-Door Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe
Fresh teaser images of a camouflaged Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe have been released ahead of the Geneva Motor Show.
The car will make its official entrance at the flagship Swiss show after being previewed by the AMG GT Concept last year. The finished article has been pictured testing in Mercedes’ wind tunnel, where its aerodynamics have been earning the final sign-off.
We can just about see that the concept’s single, central exhaust has been switched for a more conventional AMG four-pipe setup at the outer edges of the bumper. The rear light design is different, too, but the headlights and grille look strikingly similar to the ones we saw last year. We’d also say the bonnet is higher - blame pedestrian safety measures.
It’s essentially a longer, four-door version of the car the other Matt drove every version of not too long ago. That said, there’s still a very interesting question mark over exactly what will power it. We can, at least, guarantee you that it will have bigger wheels than the ones you see here.
The concept that emerged a year or so ago was fitted with an 805bhp hybrid powertrain partly derived from Lewis Hamilton’s race car. It could hit 62mph from a standstill in less than three seconds and you can bet it would knock on the door of 200mph.
Its hybrid system was ‘closed’, so it was self-charging and would always have electric charge available to use, in much the same way as you see in Toyota and Lexus hybrids. How closely the production car will stick to the concept’s drivetrain hints, we’ll have to wait and see.
Comments
This car will be amazing.
Looks good
People: Why exactly do we need a 4 door sportscar? It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
Merc:
People: ok, but you have the CLS already, so why don’t you make a CLS63 AMG and other versions of the car?
Merc:
Bmwguy(LeaderoftheGaragePatrol) look at the upvotes lmao
Welcome to Mercedes, where we call sedans, coupes and coupes, sedans
Welcome to the internet where automotive noobs think the terms “sedan” and “coupes” mean the number of doors. I bet your head would explode when you realize that even in the 30s there were 2 door sedans…
If the CLS and the Panamera had an illegal baby
design wise, why do i get that kia stinger vibe from this car?
cmon mercedes……..
Becouse a Stinger is also a Sportback?
The Stinger is more a copy of the German sedans. So I don’t know what you eant but Kia is al open saying they made a car to compete to Mercedes, BMW and Audi.
Looks like the BMW GT series (3 and 5)…really do not like the shape, too bloated rear end.
The “coupe” word lost its meaning thanks to Germans.
“Coupe” means the overall styling (particularly the roofline), which this car definitely is.
MY BOY THAT LOOKS PROMISING 👀
So basically this is a CLS63… but not a CLS63? Logic.
