Top Gear's The Stig Unmasked As BTCC Champion Gordon Shedden

The Stig. One of the world's greatest motoring mysteries ever to wear a white helmet. That was of course until The Stig Mark 1 decided to show his face and ruin the whole effect. Now with a new mystery racing driver, the enigma has returned and so has the speculation as to who it is.

No, it's not Ben Collins. That was the OLD Stig, but who could the new one be? A new report has name-dropped a potential candidate for the man in the white racing suit.

The Daily Record are surmising that current reigning British Touring Car Champion Gordon Shedden is in fact the man behind the black visor. Their reasoning? The Scot recently tested the epic Honda Mean Mower that was also featured in Top Gear Magazine, where it was jointly developed.

The Scottish newspaper also believe that Shedden - who drives for the Honda Yuasa Racing Team - has close ties to the Top Gear presenting trio alongside behind-the-scenes staff.

When asked whether or not he was the iconic Stig by the Sunday Mail he gave an intriguingly non-answer to the question: "I don’t think anyone can say that. At the end of the day, it is just a person in a white suit. It’s more about the myth about Stig than who it is."

Fans pointed out the clues which included his participation in the 'World's Best Taxi Race' which was featured in episode two of the latest season. The current Stig is the third incarnation after Perry McCarthy drove in the previous black race suit and Ben Collins was sacked in 2010 after revealing his identity in a book.
