That system can be found all over the country, not just ‘s Hertogenbosch. Only some remote villages use older systems or don’t even have traffic lights. And btw, ‘s Hertogenbosch has 2 names: Den Bosch and ‘s Hertogenbosch. Den Bosch is more used in everyday language. ‘s Hertogenbosch is the official name but everyone thinks it’s an stupid name so we just call it Den Bosch

Talking from experience (I’ve lived there for 2 years), the system is critically flawed. The sensors are placed too close to the junction, meaning the light only turns green once you’ve dedicated yourself to a stop already. It might not sound like a big deal, but overtime it grows to a major pain in the ass. You have to stop for every light, just to be surprised by the green light at precisely the moment you’ve come to a halt. That just defeats the point of having those sensors altogether.

I’ve tried racing the system, braking later and later when I see a red light up ahead, to the point of danger. One can almost never drive through one of those without braking. The system in general encourages reckless driving, giving you the impression that the light is gonna turn green soon, but if and when it doesn’t - you’re screwed. The best situation is to have somebody slightly in front of you, so that they trigger the sensors and have to brake, while you just sail through.
