It’s facelift time for the Toyota GT86, and unlike a lot of modern mid-life refreshes, the rear-wheel drive sports car’s changes are actually relatively significant. We have a whole new front bumper featuring a much larger intake, a new set of LED headlights and a new alloy wheel design.

The chassis has been lightly fettled too, with retuned shock absorbers and revised spring rates. The interior gets new leather/Alcantara upholstery and soft-touch suede door trims, or new cloth upholstery with contrasting silver stitching depending on what you spec. Not that we know what any of that looks like, as interior images haven’t been revealed just yet.

The 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated flat-four remains the same, which means 197bhp and 151lb ft at your disposal. The US-spec version however - which will be called the Toyota 86 - does get a cheeky 5bhp and 5lb ft boost.

The car will make its public debut at the New York Auto Show, and is expected to go on sale later this year.

What do you think of the GT86’s new look?

In response to number 3 - If they boosted it and only made 5 bhp then someone needs firing haha think its very safe to say the US versions is not boosted

Not necessarily. Especially when it looks the way it does…

Not sure how I feel about the front bumper, but I’m pretty sure it looks much better in person.

The new rear more resembles the WRX STI in my opinion…just saying.

I saw the rear, the power bump, and the new name and got excited, but the front end is pretty disappointing. I guess it can’t be perfect.

Pretty sure the rear wasn’t changed at all.

I agree with that. That large front grille looked weird for me.

In 30 years time, the Scion FR-S will be like Datsun 240z are now and start appreciating like crazy.
