Toyota Has Made Three Le Mans-Inspired GT86s And We're In Love
I know, I know - we’ve been here before. This isn’t the first time Toyota has done the whole retro racing car livery thing with GT86s, but how can you be mad when the results look like this?
The three cars have been created ahead of the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 86th running of the famous endurance race. What you did there, Toyota…we see it.
So, what’s the meaning behind them? Firstly, there’s the blue Casio-livered machine, which pays tribute to the 3.5-litre V10-powered TS010. Of the three cars that Toyota entered into Le Mans in 1992, two finished, taking 2nd and eighth places overall.
Next up we have a red, white and black car which is intended to look like the TS020, better known as the GT-One. Finally, we have a GT86 with a wrap that riffs off the 2016 colour scheme of Toyota’s current TS050 Hybrid racer. 2016 was - you might remember - the year Toyota Gazoo Racing suffered heartbreak when the number 5 car retired from the lead just minutes before the end of the race.
All cars have been given a Toyota high-level accessory rear spoiler, and the ride height of each GT86 has been dropped of 40mm via lowering springs. The fitting of Milltek Sport exhausts should ensure the cars sound suitably fruity, and as a finishing touch, Toyota has opted for three different sets of aftermarket wheels that have been “chosen to replicate the designs of the original racing wheels.”
Expect an up-close look at the Casio car soon, as next week Car Throttle will be driving the fantastically un-subtle beast to Circuit de la Sarthe.

why? thats the most well known one of them all
The red one is the Esso livery. Esso have closed down causing Toyota to improvise.
So would the red one brake down 5 minutes before you get to your destination?
Probably with the same power output as always…

Yasss. I love it
And the best bit is that they can double as backups for when their LMP1s inevitably blow up at Le Mans
Still ain’t got any more horsepower…
