The Toyota Hilux Tonka Is A Thing And I Want One
If you had a Tonka truck as a kid, you’ll know they’re borderline indestructible. So in a way, it’s almost surprising it’s taken Toyota this long to sort a tie-up between its spectacularly hardy Hilux and the Hasbro-owned brand.
The result is the Hilux Tonka Concept, and it looks like the ultimate big kid’s toy. Created by Toyota Australia, it rides 150mm higher than the regular Hilux on heavy duty suspension and colossal 35-inch tyres.
Elsewhere, you’ll find extensive under-body protection, a carbonfibre bonnet skin, a new carbon-wrapped tailgate and a sturdy tubular frame in the load bay complete with a recovery gubbins including a spare wheel and fuel cans. The whole lot is finished off with a massive LED light bar.
As you’d expect, this isn’t going to be something that’s going to be put in production; it’s intended to “capture the imagination of kids and adults alike” and nothing more, seemingly. Go on Toyota, you know you want to…
