Toyota Mexico Accidentally Tweets Supra Video Ahead Of Schedule

The Supra has been leaked again, but this time at the hands of Toyota itself
Toyota Mexico Accidentally Tweets Supra Video Ahead Of Schedule

We’re not supposed to be seeing the new Toyota Supra until its debut at the Detroit Motor Show on Monday, but it seems a social media manager got trigger happy.

Toyota Mexico Tweeted a promotional video showing the car in full and without camouflage, and although it has since been deleted, the Internet doesn’t forget. Have a quick search on YouTube, and it’s not hard to find multiple uploads. We’ve uploaded a few screen grabs from the accidentally released video here.

The look of the car really doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Partly disguised prototypes have been bandied about by Toyota since the Goodwood Festival of Speed last summer, and during the Christmas period, some low-resolution press photos of the Supra leaked onto the Web.

Regardless, it’s still nice to see the final product in motion, having waited so long for it - the FT-1 concept that previewed the Supra was revealed five years ago.

The production version is based on the same platform as the new BMW Z4, and the sports car will share a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six plus eight-speed automatic gearbox with its Bavarian cousin. The team behind the Supra hasn’t spoken to their counterparts on the Z4 project since 2014, however, so the cars are set to feel quite different despite the shared ingredients.

Toyota had hinted that there’ll be yet more teasers of the car before the debut, but at this stage, we’re struggling to see the point.

Want to see the car in full officially? That’ll be happening on 14 January at 09:40 EST/14:40 GMT.

I don’t care what the haters say but the new Supra is going to be good and nowhere near a rebadged Z4
The same thing with the GT86 like it is not a rebadged Subaru
The design was by Toyota while Subaru provided the boxer engine so the GT86 is not a rebadged Subaru
Same thing with the Supra like BMW provided the engine and that is why the new Supra maintained a straight six otherwise it would have been a V6 and that is the only thing that BMW did
The new Supra and the Z4 are going to be two different cars with the same engine
Also some of you guys forgot about Tetsuya Tada the man behind the MkIV Supra who is also part of the MkV Supra.
The Supra is a car we need for this generation and it will have an amazing tuning potential like a 2JZ swap
The new Supra is going to be a really good car

The difference is that the BRZ and GT86 are exactly the same car, does not matter who provided which part.
Toyota say that the supra will be setup differently than the Z4, but I doubt it will be significantly better since the whole drivetrain is from bmw (not just the engine). They can setup the chassis and suspension.
I wonder how it will compare to cayman/boxter.

I am sorry this is just ridiculous, I refuse to believe that this was an “accident.” This is just poor management. They handed all these photos out and said, “ Now don’t you go showing these off” Wink wink

Woww…it looks just like the concept. Same mistake as the NSX, loads of leaks and concepts, so now nobody’s really that bothered
