Tuner Novitec Has Given The McLaren 570GT Hilariously Pointless Mods

The whole point of McLaren's 570GT is that it's more comfortable than the S models and more exploitable in real-world conditions, so we can't really understand Novitec's power-spiking, comfort-ruining tweaks

Tuning house Novitec has built a stiffer, louder, more powerful version of the McLaren 570GT, because apparently they haven’t looked at the McLaren range lately.

Despite there already being more powerful, stiffer cars in the catalogue, and despite the whole point of the 570GT being that it’s easier to live with, Novitec has released a range of performance upgrades and comfort downgrades for the softest and most exploitable British supercar of the lot, making it almost as powerful and volatile as the old 650S and swapping the GT’s standard suppleness for pretty much the opposite.

The only reason we can ever imagine this being useful is if you’ve somehow accidentally bought a 570GT when you really wanted a 570S or even a 650S. Raising power to 637bhp with an ECU tweak and a cat-delete exhaust gets it within 4bhp of the 650S, while 30mm lowering springs and 20/21-inch wheel sets make sure all the GT’s impressive comfort is shot to hell.

Adding 20- and 21-inch wheels (front/rear) to a car like this, especially with aftermarket lowering springs, makes sure that the tyres are so low-profile and rigid that if you roll over a stray penny in the road you’ll a) be able to tell which side up it was, and b) need to call a chiropractor.

You don’t have to have the comfort ruiners, to be fair; you can pick and choose the elements you want to add and it’s likely that some owners will just buy the flashy carbonfibre bodywork, but the power will be difficult to resist when it adds 4mph to the top speed (now 208mph), drops the already fairly explosive 0-62mph launch by 0.4sec to 3.0 seconds and adds appropriate bragging rights at the sort of fancy wine bars McLaren owners go to.

The same modifications are available for the 570S and 540C, too, but they make about as much sense on the softer but awesomely engaging 570GT as would a set of those God-awful ‘eyelashes’ you sometimes see on Fiat 500s. We can’t imagine there’s a long line of 570GT owners queuing out of the Novitec door begging for the tuner to make their cars spikier and less comfortable.

overused, old… #LetItDie
I’m getting kinda sick of seeing this in top comments whenever there is a post about facelift or minor changes and kinda unrelated this time imo

By the sounds of it theyre on the GT because its just as easy to do on there as it is the S. It does actually make sense if you think about it like that

Cost? if it’s cheaper than the 650S, it’ll make sense to somebody

the mods’ cost + the GT could get you a 650S

If I had the money to buy a 570GT, I would go straight to Novitec to do this. Only because I think the GT looks better than the 570S, so why not have the looks of a 570GT and the ride of a 570S. It’s brilliant! And of course more power, that’s almost always better :)

Completely agree with you, I don’t think the author of this realises that some people hugely prefer the styling of 570GT
