A Tuning Company Will 'Fix' The Land Rover Discovery's Offset Plate For You
A few months ago, Land Rover designer Gerry McGovern claimed that the ‘problem’ with the new Discovery’s rear-end lies with the kind of number plates being fitted.
Yep, he blamed the larger plates - complete with GB/EU emblem - being fitted by dealers in the UK for making the back of the SUV look weird; not the quirky offset placement. Having mocked up a car with slimmer plates in Photoshop at the time, we remained unconvinced and a little bemused.
Now though, there’s a much more convincing fix from a German tuning company called Startech. Its solution? To reposition the plate to the middle where it arguably should have been all along. Or, as the firm excitedly puts it, the “Discovery of symmetry!” Chortle.
It’s all thanks to a neat little insert, available from January 2018 for a very reasonable €809.20. Take a look at the image above - it’s a massive improvement, no?

Thanks Startech!
What’s wrong with an offset license plate?
People think it looks weird.
Nothing is wrong with the concept of an offset plate. But the execution for this car looks very poorly thought out and sloppy. That’s the issue with it.
I like it Standard
Me too, it’s different!
Agree with you
