Turbocharged Ferraris Are Back: Say Hello To The 552bhp California T

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the new Ferrari California. Feel a little underwhelmed? You're not the only ones: aside from a few nods to the F12 and FF, it's not hugely different from the outgoing model. It's plenty handsome, though, and what's going on underneath is considerably more interesting.

Under the bonnet you'll find the old 4.3-litre V8 is gone, replaced with a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8. That makes this the first turbocharged road car from Maranello since the legendary F40.

Those turbos mean this V8 is good for 552bhp and 557lb/ft of torque. 0-60mph takes 3.6 seconds - 0.2 seconds quicker than the old model - while top speed is 196mph. The switch to forced induction and the reduction in engine size means the fuel consumption and emissions have been trimmed down.

You don't have to worry about the turbos sapping engine noise, as an upgraded exhaust manifold means the new California will actually be louder than before. It'll also have new carbon-ceramic brakes, and revised suspension.

The car will be making its public debut at the Geneva motor show next month, with the first UK deliveries taking place in September.
