Amidst the whole Jeremy Clarkson ‘fracas’ controversy - which saw the presenter lose his job after punching producer Oisin Tymon - one question has remained unanswered: what will the BBC do with all that unaired footage? Now, at last, we know: the Corporation has confirmed it’ll be aired this year, most likely this summer.

While considerable parts of the episodes will never be completed (the studio scenes are usually filmed just days before airing, and this filming couldn’t be completed with Clarkson suspended), the BBC has been left with a large amount of footage it has invested a lot of time, effort and money in. BBC Two and BBC Four controller Kim Shillinglaw, said: “No way would I want the available material not to be seen by viewers.”

With this missing studio footage and other ‘lost’ scenes, three separate episodes are highly unlikely. A one or two-part special is what we’d expect. One unaired scene is a classic convertible challenge featuring a Fiat 124, MGB GT and Peugeot 304, which we saw the presenters filming at Jap Fest last year.
