Update: Ford's New Mustang Has Been Dragged Into The 21st Century, So Why Is It Fatter Than Before?

We’re rather excited about the 2015 Mustang, not just because it’s coming to the UK in right-hand drive, but also because the ‘Stang is being dragged into the 21st Century; its old live axle suspension has finally been ditched for a modern independent setup, for starters. According to Ford tuners Steeda, though, the 2015 car will be between 90 and 136kg heavier than the old car.

it’s also going to be a fair bit heavier than the outgoing Pony, which means it bucks the trend of newer, more advanced cars shedding a few pounds in the process.

According to Ford tuners Steeda, the 2015 car will be between 90 and 136kg heavier than the old car. And with the outgoing Mustang weighing anything from 1551-1833kg depending on the variant, the new version will be on the porky side. The weight gain is yet to be confirmed by Ford itself, however.

The 2015 Mustang goes on sale in the last quarter of 2014, arriving in the UK in early 2015. It’s the first Ford Mustang to be sold in right-hand drive in over 40 years, and will be available with a 2.3-litre four-pot Ecoboost engine as well as the usual V6 and V8 options.

UPDATE: It’s emerged that a Steeda employee revealed on a Mustang forum that the weight gain the tuner reported was based on an estimate. However, concern does remain for many Mustang fans about any potential weight gain for the 2015 car, owing to the fact that Ford still hasn’t revealed an actual figure.
