Update: Here's Yet Another Sickening Crash During Indy 500 Practice
James Hinchcliffe has been the latest IndyCar driver to suffer a huge crash during practice for this weekend’s Indy 500. According to MotorsportsTalk, a component failure on his No. 5 Arrow/Lucas Oil Schmidt Peterson Honda sent him heavily into the wall at Turn three, with his car then flipping as it rolled down the track.
IndyCar confirmed that he is in a stable condition but has been taken to the Methodist Hospital with an injury to his left upper thigh. He is currently undergoing surgery. We will keep you updated on his condition. Get well soon, James!
Update:
IndyCar later announced that Hinchcliffe had left surgery and was transferred to an Intensive Care Unit. He remains in a stable condition. Honda spokesman Dan Layton confirmed that the right front suspension in Hinchcliffe’s car failed, causing the accident.
