The ‘Urban Assault’ Street Hoon Buggy Driver Is Being Taken To Court On 26 Different Charges

Remember that guy who terrorised the streets of San Diego in an LS-powered buggy? Unsurprisingly, it seems the authorities took a dim view of his actions...

Back in January, a video of an LS-powered buggy driver’s massively illegal street hoon landed, breaking the Internet to such an extent that both of Kim Kardashian’s buttocks were immeasurably jealous. Many claimed the ‘Urban Assault’ video - now on 1.1 million views - was staged, a thought soon quashed when it turned out the police were investigating the driver’s antics. Now it’s been revealed that the pilot - Blake Wilkey - is being taken to court, for no less than 26 misdemeanor accounts.

Wilkey posted an image of the charge list on his Instagram account, revealing nine counts of conspiring to commit a crime, nine counts of reckless driving, and eight counts of engaging in a “motor vehicle exhibition of speed”. He seems fairly relaxed about his court appearance on Monday 14 March, but we should imagine the consequences for all those charges will be quite severe…

I live pretty close to where he did some of those last scenes, I am surprised no cops saw him as he is barely a block from the La Mesa Police Station…

Yes it sees like a bunch of fun to go drive like a GTA mission, but there are places and permits to do it so you aren’t destroying property or taking others at risk. You would think that with all the sponsors involved, at least one person would have the idea to ensure that they take measure and not have their name attached to a video featuring someone breaking the law.

If I’m not mistaken “Conspiring to commit a crime” is going to be the worst of all the charges. That allows them to escalate misdemeanors to felonies. Depending on the specific crimes involved, it could even allow prosecution under RICO (not sure about this last point)…

Short version: He could be looking at serious jail time.

He was REALLY stupid to film such flagrant violations of the law in an urban area and then post them on the internet.

And if he thinks his lawyer is going to get him out of this, he’s still being stupid.
