After driving the new C7 in the soaking rain, we've got Corvettes on our minds; here's a brilliant used example we're drooling after

Muscular, all-American cars are hard to come by in our native UK. So when the opportunity for our man Alex to hoon a C7 Corvette Stingray arose, he naturally jumped at the chance. We’ve had Corvettes on the brain ever since, so we thought it was time to mosey off to the classifieds to see what examples of this V8 brute are about on these shores.

This 2008 C6 Z06 immediately caught our eye. It was imported to the UK from new, and in its time has covered just 13,000 miles. In other words, barely run in. It’s up for £38,990, so what do you get for the best part of £40k? Power, and lots of it.

Under the long bonnet there’s a huge 7.0-litre LS7 V8 producing a burly 500bhp. That’s enough to get you from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds, and on to a top speed of 205mph. Make no mistake, this is one seriously fast car for the cash.

It’s not just a straight-line weapon, either. With an aluminium chassis and various carbonfibre parts it’s a very light car, and the engine is mounted as far back and as low as possible giving great balance. This is a car that absolutely destroys the ‘American cars can’t corner’ stereotype. The plus points don’t end there: it’s also a fine-looking thing, and happens to have a massive boot. And of course, as Mr Regular Car Reviews tells us, the C6 perfected the penis car. High praise indeed.

Inevitably, there are downsides. C6 Corvettes were never made in right-hand drive, so you’ll have to pilot this Z06 from the ‘wrong’ side of the cabin. And while we’re on the subject of the cabin, it’s full of rather cheap and nasty materials. The ride, too, is pretty poor.

Despite the downsides, though, if we had a spare £40k, we’d be sorely tempted by this Z06. Certainly, there are more sophisticated quick cars around for that sort of cash, but we doubt any would give the same sort of thrills.
