Volkswagen Could Build A Stunning Arteon Shooting Brake

Volkswagen is mulling over whether or not to build a stellar-looking shooting brake version of its new flagship saloon, the Arteon.

If the premium-style four-door saloon, which is meant to be a rival to the likes of the Audi A5 and Mercedes E-Class Coupe, sells well enough to justify the extra body style, then Volkswagen will sign off on the shooting brake.

Volkswagen Could Build A Stunning Arteon Shooting Brake

The front end of the Arteon saloon is a bit controversial and we don’t expect that to change, but from the side the shooting brake makes a great-looking shape, as imagined in our handy render from X-Tomi design. It looks low, sleek and purposeful. It even looks pretty fast even without turning a wheel. Let’s hope the reality ends up being very close to the render.

Compared to the estate, the saloon suddenly looks a bit forgettable, even if it does benefit from being a little different to the absolute German mainstream. On the other hand, if you’re wondering what a three-door Arteon would look like, X-Tomi has that covered as well.

The Arteon will sit above the Passat in the range, with petrol and diesel engines ranging from 148bhp to 276bhp. It’s set to feature cool technology like a digital dashboard, but many of the most desirable features will be relegated to the options list. A 9.2-inch infotainment screen with gesture control could be among them, at least on the lower trim grades.

There’ll be ‘extensive’ potential for customisation on the higher trim levels, because of course customers will also want the experience of buying their Arteon to be like buying a Fiat 500. Apparently. Prices for the saloon will start at £38,000, but don’t count on the high-spec estate that you really want giving you much change from £50,000 after options.

Would be nice to see a render of this “shooting brake.” All I see are pics of a 4dr wagon and a hatchback.

So, Arteon Sedan isn’t interesting because of the Renault front-end, but when there is a large boot it’s suddenly something CT staff likes?
