Volvo have been an ever present on the pages of Car Throttle this week. With the unveiling of the stunning Concept Coupé the Swedes gave us a glimpse of their new design language - or Scalable Product Architecture, to be pretentious precise - which would first influence the design of the new XC90, to be released next year.

We admit, we rolled our eyes a little at the prospect of this stunning sports coupé influencing a 7-seat SUV, however if these technical drawings are anything to go by, we might just be surprised. Out front the XC90 retains the coupé's aggressive headlights with those distinctive T-shaped Daytime Running Lights, while the grille and fog light surrounds appear sharp and purposeful.

And the backside is just as stylised, with the Concept Coupé's thin D-shaped rear lights morphed into a fantastic swoosh of light. Inside, and there's Swedish minimalism at work, as an iPad-sized touchscreen adorns the dashboard, reducing the number of 'physical' buttons required.
Under the bonnet, the XC90 will be powered by Volvo's new range of Drive-E engines, in the shape of 2-litre petrol and diesel units.
While there's still plenty of time for Volvo to tone down these designs before its release, we have faith in design chief Thomas Ingenlath - he's been making all the right noises ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show, so here's hoping he lives up to the hype.
We're watching you, Thomas...
