Really old diesel engines exhaust manifolds were also integrated into the cast iron cylinder head, with only two ports coming out of a 4 cylinder engine. Perkins had one of those designs. Of course it was a NA diesel.

But it’s not water cooled, it’s more like it’s welded to the side (it’s not actually welded it’s a one piece design). Unlike VW’s design, this is more like “all the draw backs (serviceability….) with no benefice at all”.
Ya, ford did it the 1.0 ecoboost and nobody bats an eye. Vw does it and everyone is like “woooo”…
Ford, Opel, Honda had this technology for few years already but I guess nobody gives a sh*t unless its a VW…
