Want A Small Audi Coupe With More Doors? The TT Sportback Concept Has You Covered
Remember the recent chatter about the prospect of a TT saloon? It seems such a thing could well be heading to an Audi showroom near you before too long, as the German company has unveiled this TT Sportback concept at the Paris motor show.
Utilising VW Group’s flexible MQB architecture, the Sportback features an extended wheelbase compared to the standard TT coupe in order to slot in that extra set of doors and give a roomier interior. In total, it’s 29cm longer than the coupe, and 6cm wider. Under the bonnet is a transversely-mounted 2.0-litre TFSI engine chucking out 395bhp and 332lb ft of torque to all four wheels, which - if it were allowed on the road - would send it from 0-62mph in just 4.1 seconds.
Compared to the coupe, the Sportback has a much wider grille at the front, while the rear has a prominent lip on the edge of the boot - as opposed to the coupe’s curvier rump - spikier light clusters and a restyled bumper that gives a high-waisted look. When it comes to the four seat interior, the changes aren’t quite so dramatic; the dash looks to have been lifted pretty much straight from the coupe and roadster. But as that’s a very tasteful lesson in minimalism, we don’t mind.
Will Audi actually put something like this into production? Well, the concept doesn’t have much in the way of outlandish details, and the flexible nature of the MQB platform makes it far easier and cheaper for Audi to fill pretty much any niche it can think of. Watch this space.
