Was The Second Episode Of Top Gear An Improvement Over The First?

Was it just us, or was episode two of 'new' Top Gear a massive improvement over the first? We want your view!
Was The Second Episode Of Top Gear An Improvement Over The First?

From the shouting to the long and seemingly pointless Reliant challenge, it was clear you guys found a lot to dislike about Top Gear post-revamp when watching the first episode. But you know what? I actually enjoyed the second episode.

Sure, it’s clear Evans has work to do when it comes to telling an audience about a car in an insightful way (he is new to this, so should be cut a little slack) and can still come across as irritating, but the McLaren feature was good to watch, and the SUV challenge genuinely enjoyable.

Comments in the CT live discussion seemed much more positive too, so we thought we’d put it to a vote to see exactly what you guys thought:

For me what’s killing th show is the exaggerated number of guest stars. It’s becoming more like a talk show than a car show.
Really, 1 or 2 was fine, but it seems that now they need to have at least 4 guests. Sometimes too much can become too little, and this is defenitely a case.
Still not a big fan of the two main hosts (Evans, too hysterical; Matt, too wooden) but I guess they will improve as they get more comfortable with the role. They have big shoes to fill after all…

Evans is the weakest link, hes still a drag and overenthusiastic, the rest are much better now

I think it was an improvment. I think it has potential to be very good one day but we will have to wait for all the presenters to find their place and the producers and script people to find their good sides.

Did anybody else think that Evans was actually more likeable and normal in extra gear? Still think he’s a tool in top gear, he presents like he’s doing it to a class of nursery kids and tries too hard to be funny.

Considering most of the 1s in the poll were probably made by people who didn’t even watch the second episode (and possibly even the first), I’d say it did a pretty good job. I personally enjoyed the 675LT piece, the SUV part went on a bit but was some good content in there. Sadly the Star in a Rallycross car really doesn’t do it for me, last week I thought it was cool but Chris just isn’t good with the guests.

Definitely. The second one was a lot better than the first. However, there is still a lot of room left for improvement.

The reason I feel Matt is a better presenter than Chris is simply because I he comes across like ‘he shouldn’t be there’ and therefore respects the show more. Meanwhile Chris is egotistical in his own way and tries to copy Clarkson not realising the show is nothing like it used to be and that he needs to develop his own style. It’s only early days and I will continue to watch the show but I honestly do hope improvement is on the way.
