Watch A BMW M4 CS Receive A Good Spanking In The Name Of Advertising
By and large, adverts are rubbish, aren’t they? They’re usually either cringeworthy or downright dull, but thankfully, there are exceptions, and this is definitely one of them.
It’s another one of those Pennzoil films, which usually involve a handy driver thrashing the living daylights out of a nice car in an interesting location. The last one we looked at involved a Dodge Challenger Demon drifting in Cape Town, and this time around, it’s rallycross driver Rhys Millen in a BMW M4 CS, shredding some serious rubber on and around the Nurburgring.
With drifting, straight-six noise and even a cheeky jump, it’s quite a video. It’s almost perfect, the only fly in the ointment being that the film is embellished with some Fast and Furious-style shots of the automatic gear selector’s manual mode being aggressively shifted, as though it’s a proper manual…

It shows the true potential these cars have and the need is strong, when can we have one?
Um, about that last paragraph Matt, the M4’s gear lever seems to have a manual gear shifting mode. Notice the + and - symbols.
Well he is correct. It’s absolutely unnecessary cuz it’s got paddles. And it looks excessive tbh.
(^_^)
Aware of that, but surely he’d have used the paddles? This smacks of ‘we need some Fast and Furious-style gearshift action’. It’s not connected to anything mechanical so you don’t need to hack away at it so aggressively…
It reminded me heavily of the car chase from black panther, where the one of the characters(I kinda forgot who), was driving the 2018 Lexus LS sedan, which I’m sure is Automatic only, and was shifting it like manual! Like seriously?
This is of course ONLY possible if you’re using Pennzoil oil, it won’t work with anything else! - Yeah, advertisment logic. But hey, at least we got some spectacular footage.
I probably don’t need to explain this, but Pennzoil knows that. The purpose of the ad is to just get people’s emotions going and get excited about cars and drifting, then attach their brand to that memory and emotion.
Why does he keep hitting the shifter tho
manual mode
This commericial beats volkswagen’s new commericial
Man, I really hate that yellow! They should’ve used something more toned down like a more satin version of the Austin Yellow used on the normal M4.
I don’t know for sure but i think it’s because of pennzoils brand colours they did similar commercials with a 488,challenger and viper acr and all of them were a very a very very similar shade of yellow . Pennzoil sponsored race cars are that shade of yellow as well .
When mandem late for work….
I like how a whole movie is being made by promos. I love pennzoil.

The automatic shifter slaps are hilarious. Lmao to look so dramatic he slaps with so much effort. So funny.
