Watch Chris Harris Throw Some Shapes In The Brilliantly Geeky Ford GT

The latest episode of Chris Harris Drives to hit YouTube features Ford's new supercar

The Ford GT is a fascinating supercar. Yes, some are happy to write it off because it’s dropped a couple of cylinders relative to its predecessor, or perhaps because from the rear it looks like an Angry Birds character, but you can’t deny the technical achievement it represents.

To have been built as a race car first before being converted for road use means it’s had an atypical birth. It features trick suspension that uses pushrod-actuated torsion bars which save weight and space, allowing for those massive air channels. Oh, and much of the car is built by Multimatic in Canada - that’s the company responsible for the trick ‘DSSV’ dampers found on the likes of the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, the Aston Martin One-77 and others.

All of this adds up to a mesmerising driving experience, as related here by Mr. Harris. And yes, he does get it sideways a few times…

“Or perhaps because from the rear it looks like an Angry Birds character.”

I completely agree.

I can not deny, it is a truly remarkable car and quite a good looking one as well, I just prefer the Audi R8 V10 Plus. But if I were offered a Ford GT I would gladly take it.

I say take the R8 engine and stick it into the GT’s chassis!

Is “throwing shapes” Harris’ way of throwing shade? I think yes.

Let me solve this once for all time
Ford GT has a V8 heritage. It’s like that family in your town that has been mechanics for the past 50 years. But the latest Ford GT doesn’t care about heritage. It doesn’t want to be a mechanic, it wants to be an engineer.

heritage

The entire point of the original GT was to win Le Mans, not create heritage. The new GT won Le Mans 50 years after the historic 1966 1-2-3 domination.. More important than a V8 being forced behind the driver in my opinion.

IMO it’s a Hypercar. It’s as rare as the LaF or the 918. It’s as fast to 100 as the 720S, and currently, there are even less of them on the road. Not to mention the fact that there are 10k people willing to pay 400 grand for it.

That’s usually the way legends are born.

  • Renault 5 Turbo;
  • Peugeot 205 T16;
  • Lancia Delta S4;
  • MG Metro 6R4;
  • Audi quattro;
  • Ford RS200;
  • Lancia 037 Stradale;
    and many more.

That’s how you get road legends.

The GT engine shares 60% components with an F150 pickup truck?!? That’s not something Ford should say out loud
