Watch Jay Leno Stunned Into Silence By Twin-Engined Mini Racer
As you may have seen from our recent features on this 800bhp Skoda Octavia and this crazy little Lupo, we love twin-engined cars. That's why we got quite excited when we saw the latest addition to Jay Leno's Garage is a race-spec Mini Cooper with - you guessed it - two engines.
Jacques Andres's monstrous creation has a 1.6-litre four pot supercharged Mini Cooper engine at the front driving the front wheels, and another in the boot driving the rear wheels. Each has an output of 250hp, giving a headline figure of 500hp.
You might think that's a relatively modest figure considering the effort and expense of fitting two engines, but by Jacques' estimations it was a cheaper job than dumping in a single bigger, more powerful engine. It also has practical benefits, because if one engine blows during an event, Jacques can use the other to limp the car back home.
Whatever your opinions on twin-engined motors, this thing is hugely cool. And when Jay Leno drives it, he looks pretty impressed as well.
