There's no doubt about it, Brennan Eden should be dead. After apparently falling asleep behind the wheel, Eden's Pontiac Firebird drifted off the highway at "well over" 100mph, catapulted through the air and disintegrated on impact with the pillar of a bridge.

The whole affair was caught on a Policeman's on-board camera, cruising along Interstate 675 in Ohio. Fellow drivers can be seem tentatively walking towards the wreckage looking for the inevitable.

To their amazement they found the driver, 19 year old Brennan Eden, breathing. He had been thrown from the vehicle and was found at the side of the road. He had broken bones in his legs, pelvis and back, as well as suffering burns and skid marks on his face and arms. Eden spent just 6 weeks in hospital, and was back working full time after about 7 months.

Following investigations by Police, it was discovered that shortly before the incident, Eden had been spoken to by a Police officer with regards to drugs and alcohol in his vehicle. After co-operating fully with the officer, and passing a field sobriety test, Eden was sent on his way, crashing just 16 minutes later. Tests after the incident revealed that he was not under the influence of anything when the crash occurred.

Eden was featured on the National Geographic show The Indestructibles, where he said that he believed he'd fallen asleep at the wheel as he had been awake for about 20 hours following a late shift at work. I think we can all see the lesson here...
