Watch Three Generations Of Audi RS4 Plus An RS2 Do Battle

An RS2 faces off against B5, B7 and B9-generation RS4s in a multi-generation Audi drag race

Having already drag-raced almost every generation of BMW M3, it should come as no surprise that Car Wow has since stuck a bunch of RS4s on one runway for an Audi-themed follow-up.

Oh, and an RS2 makes an appearance too - since it effectively spawned the RS4 dynasty, it has every right to be there, even if it’s out-gunned by its successors. Speaking of which, we have the original 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6 ‘B5’, the 4.2-litre N/A V8-powered ‘B7’, and the latest RS4, the B9, which has a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 you’ll also find in a bunch of Porsches.

We’re quite happy to drop a spoiler about the winner - it’s the most recent RS4, which is entirely expected. But it’s a lot closer than you’d expect between the B5 and B7 - press play and you’ll see what we mean.

Im sorry but on the second run the RS2 just rolled off the line, that wasnt a launch. I suspect something untoward happening here

Well, this (for me) is easy! Particularly based on the 1/4 mile results and in gear acceleration.

I’m actually very pleased to see that my 1994 Impreza WRX (295bhp/260lb/ft) which ran a 1/4 mile in 13.42 seconds even with soggy shocks and worn tyres would have beaten 3 of the RS Audi’s tested from a standstill.. I think maybe, with a slightly better start and the all new KW adjustable shocks and new tyres (minus the heavy tool box in the boot) that I had fitted after that day out at the drag strip, it might have been able to dip under 13 seconds).

So it’s an easy decision, B9 is THE ONE (as much as I absolutely love the B7) - it’s quicker than my Scooby was over a 1/4 mile and would easily run away from it in the mid range. Add to the fact that I now have 2 kids, do family road trips and we struggle to pack lightly at the best of times, the 2.9l V6 has to be the pick of the bunch for me and our lifestyle.

I can’t wait to get one!!

OR, MAYBE Audi is cooking up something even more special for 2020????
