Watch A V10 F1 Car Annihilate Road Atlanta's Lap Record In This Stunning Footage

Marc Gene broke Road Atlanta's lap record by five seconds in a Ferrari F2003-GA during a recent Corsa Clienti event

With wide tracks and masses of runoff, most modern tracks used by Formula 1 don’t give a sense of just how fast the cars are. 2.54-mile Road Atlanta in Georgia, USA is a little different to these kind of circuits, however. It’s much more narrow than the average F1 track, and the barriers are comparatively very close to the tarmac.

As a result, this lap of Road Atlanta from Marc Gene in a Ferrari F2003-GA - the title-winning car from the 2003 season - is rather dramatic to watch. Sure, a lower quality recording helps, but make no mistake - this was an astonishingly quick effort. How do we know? Because it’s the new lap record.

Taking to the track as part of one of Ferrari’s super exclusive Corsa Clienti events, Gene managed a 1:01.2 - over five seconds faster than the previous record set by a Peugeot 908 HDI FAP during a Petit Le Mans race in 2008.

Just to make the video of the run that little bit more dramatic, we get an amazing soundtrack to go with it. The Ferrari in question is from one of the latter years of the monstrous V10 era, featuring 1000bhp monsters that contemporary F1 cars only recently caught back up to in performance terms.

Where would you like to see an older F1 car try for a lap record? Make your suggestions in the comments…
