Watch The World's Fastest Mk1 Polo Obliterate The 1/4-Mile In 8.5 Seconds
Desperately cool retro cars running modern engines and massive turbos really are the holy grail of car tuning. You can keep your 1300hp GT-Rs and Veyron-beating Juke Rs. What we really want to see are evil diesel Mercedes wagons going sideways, or a Mk1 Golf pushing 736bhp through its front wheels...
Continuing the VW theme, we bring you the 'world's fastest Mk1 Polo.' Powered by a 3.3-litre turbo'd engine, its 1200hp is transferred to the tarmac via all four wheels.
Obviously, for a car that originally weighed around 800kg, this Polo turbo is monumentally fast - given just 1/4 of a mile - which it'll happily dispatch in 8.5 seconds - it'll reach speeds in excess of 180mph. Given a long enough runway, it should reach beyond 230mph if its gearing is altered for top speed runs rather than bullet-like blasts.
Further mods to this Polo from hell include beefy, near-solid suspension, a wider track, massive tyres and the obligatory roll cage. It looks and sounds awesome, scary and wild in equal measure, so here are three videos for you to sink your teeth into.
