The Way The New 911 Targa Opens Its Roof Is Too Sexy

The new 911 Targa has been revealed in Detroit, and its roof mechanism is too damn cool for words

Following plenty of leaked images and spy shots of the new 911 Targa, we already knew what the new 911 Targa would look before the sports car's official unveil at the Detroit motor show. What we weren't counting on, was just how mesmerised we were going to be seeing that folding roof in elegant action.

It might seem odd to get excited about a roof, but the video below proves that opening and closing the lid is an incredibly cool sequence; much classier than a cabriolet, that's for sure...

It has a fixed B-pillar with a matte chrome finish - just like the original 911 Targa. It's a weird mix of modern and retro, but the look is growing on us.

It'll only be available in four-wheel drive, with the choice of either a Targa 4 or Targa 4S model. The 3.4-litre Targa 4 has 345bhp and will crack the 0-62mph sprint in 5.2 seconds before hitting 173mph. Go for the 3.8-litre Targa 4S and you get 395bhp, enough for a 0-62mph time of 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 182mph.

Spec the PDK dual-clutch gearbox in either car and you'll shave 0.2 seconds of the 0-62mph dash, and add a tiny bit of top speed - an extra 1mph in the '4 and 2mph in the '4S.

Interested? The Targa will be available in the UK in May. The Targa 4 weighs in at £86,281, while the 4S can be yours for £96,316. Not exactly a bargain, but both are cheaper than their 911 cabriolet equivalents.
