This Is What A $12k A Day Racing Simulator Looks Like

The guys at Drive were given a rare chance to try out Dallara's state-of-the-art racing simulator, which costs around $12,000 a day to hire

Even if you had $12,000 to splash out on a day of simulator fun, you wouldn’t be able to snag some time in this incredible machine - it’s used exclusively by racing teams. For them, $12k represents a cost-effective alternative to expensive real-world testing.

For mere mortals, it is still build yourself a kick-ass simulator on a tight budget, if you don’t mind doing without features like the Dallara machine’s ludicrously detailed suspension adjustments…

If you’re not an actual racing driver, you could just buy a 10,000$ car and a 2,000$ year track membership…

It’s not even in VR… I’d just take that money and buy a real race car.

all the money in the word still can’t buy the g-forces. almost getting your face ripped of in a highspeed corner like pouhon at francochamps is amazing.

All the people saying that they’d just buy the real thing? Great, good for you. This sim isn’t made for you.

The simulator is quite cheap compared to the buying price of a racecar and the actual cost of driving it. Like people say “id just buy the real thing” but actually the cost of fuel, tires, track fee’s, transportation, crew and all that is waay much more than 12 grand a day, if you’re talking about race cars like these.

I’m not saying real racing is worse, but people just never seem to realize the real cost of actual racing…

A casual test-day at a track with my brothers track car is already like around 500-1000€, so perfecting your skills on a racing simulator is just much more cheaper and teaches you to become a better driver / new tracks etc.

if u can get your costs up to 12k a day for a month long with a track car, you’re an idiot. let’s say fuel and tyres are 1k a day. get there: 200. be able to drive on the track: 25-100 where’s the other 10k?
