This Is What The All-New Mazda MX-5 Looks Like Naked
With the doors now open at the New York International Auto Show, one of the most interesting things to be revealed is Mazda's super light Skyactiv chassis that'll underpin the all-new MX-5 (no full reveal of the car just yet...).
What we know already is that the next-gen MX-5 will be 100kg lighter than the outgoing model and will have a perfect 50:50 weight distribution. Spec your MX-5 with the fabric roof rather than hard-top, and it could tip the scales at a mere 1000kg, which should make it a lively ride.
It's been designed to be agile, so on top of the light weight, the new car will be stiffer than before and will feature a lower centre of gravity than any MX-5 that's gone before it.
Back in January, we brought you the rendering above that imagined how the next MX-5 could look. It's believed that the range-topper will be powered by a 163bhp 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G engine - which will sit just behind the front axle - which would make the new MX-5 a pretty potent and nimble sports car.
