What about valve springs? I understood that pneumatic valve springs were introduced in high revs engines because wire springs cannot react at such high speeds.

Nah, you don’t need pnuematics really until north of about 14-15krpm.

My guess before watching this would be small displacement, oversquare (smaller stroke than bore), good engine quality, etc
