This Is What The New Turbo Porsche 911 Carrera Sounds Like
When a manufacturer takes a car that’s long been naturally-aspirated and slaps a turbocharger or two on, the number one concern for us car geeks is noise. With exhaust gasses sapped to spool the turbo and peak power generally coming in at lower revs, the sound of the newly blown car is likely to be vastly different to the old N/A model.
So, now the Porsche 911 Carrera range has switched to 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-sixes, what do the cars sound like? Thanks to these videos shot at a passenger ride media event, we get to find out.
We’ll reserve proper judgement until we hear the car in person, particularly because the interior-shot videos here aren’t the best quality (you might want to skip to around the 1:50 mark in the one above, where things get a little more interesting), but to us, it all sounds quite promising.
It’s pretty damn similar to the old naturally-aspirated six, which was no doubt exactly what Porsche intended - Stuttgart knows how important the 911’s signature sound is to buyers. It also helps that the peak power comes in at a reasonably high 6500rpm.
What do you think of the new noise?
