Which Spectre Car Is Cooler? Aston Martin DB10 Or Jaguar C-X75
Today is the day the world finally gets to see James Bond take on Spectre, a shady organisation intent on doing bad things in the world (I’ll be careful not to spoil too much of the storyline). Naturally for petrolheads, the release of a new 007 film is exciting because we get to see what everyone’s favourite British agent is driving this time around.
In Spectre, we actually get the pleasure of having two cars from British manufacturers taking centre stage. Our renegade hero, played by Daniel Craig for the fourth time, continues his allegiance to Aston Martin by driving the new DB10, which was commissioned exclusively for the film. His nemesis comes in the form of Mr. Hinx, played by Dave Bautista. This human tank drives the super sleek Jaguar C-X75 in a thrilling pursuit through Rome.
Here’s the lowdown on each car, after which you can vote for your favourite at the bottom of the page!
Aston Martin DB10
Aston Martin has a long running association with James Bond, having featured in 12 of the 24 007 films to date. This time around, Bond’s driving a bespoke car that’s been created specifically for use in the film.
2015 marks 50 years since the first Aston starred in a JB film (a DB5 in 1964’s Goldfinger), so the designers wanted to create something that looked modern and hinted at the British manufacturer’s future design language, while also nodding to the past. It’s an incredibly limited run, with only 10 cars being produced - eight of which were used in film production, with two used as show cars.
According to Aston Martin design director Marek Reichman, this car uses the V8 Vantage’s underpinnings, but with a slightly longer wheelbase and a much wider track. Since Bond is a fan of the good old days, it’s perhaps no surprise to learn that the DB10 has a six-speed manual transmission bolted to the 4.7-litre V8.
Naturally, Bond has a slew of gadgets at his fingertips, but you’ll have to watch the film to find out exactly what he can call upon.
Jaguar C-X75
Playing off its ‘Good to be Bad’ motto, Jaguar has provided the vehicle of choice to one of Bond’s main enemies in Spectre, Mr. Hinx. This man mountain squeezes into the sleek C-X75 for a late night pursuit of 007 through Rome.
The car was built by Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations unit, in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering, and is a fully working prototype. It’s an all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, but it’s certainly no Prius; this is Jaguar’s test bed for its research into creating high performance vehicles that spew low emissions.
The ICE component of the hybrid setup is a Formula 1-inspired 1.6-litre four-pot that’s turbocharged and supercharged, resulting in 502bhp at a dizzying 10,000rpm. According to the press bumph, "the battery pack in the C-X75 is the highest continuously rated power PHEV pack in the world, capable of delivering more than 300kW over the full state of the charge window." The combined output is more than 850bhp and 738lb ft of torque.
It has a seven-speed automated manual transmission that can shift gear in ‘under 200 milliseconds,’ aiding a 0-100mph time of less than six seconds and a theoretical top speed of 220mph. Beneath the flowing exterior lines, which conceal deployable aero, is Jaguar’s first ever carbon composite monocoque chassis.
