are they easy to install? any prefabricated outlets on the block itself? and how serious should your build be for it to be necessary or good mod for any car that gets pushed every know and then? great vid btw

Every engine have a PCV (Positive Crankcas Ventilation) system.
Even if you only drive on the road, a catch is always a good thing if it is plumbed right !
The more you push your engine, the more you need it.

Most would bolt to strut tower, so that would be easy.

I think my stock civic actually has a catch can. Thing is,I dont think it’s ever been opened. Should I attempt it?

My advice is to open it, I have no idea about Japanese cars but VW’s are known for making sludge in these catchcans which can give your engine a hard time breathing…

Check whether it is routed to your A/C first! A/C parts and catch cans can look strikingly similar, but if you damage an A/C system part, you could face jail time and up to $4,000,000 in fines.

If you’re not sure, don’t touch it. Take it to someone who will know, so that if they make the mistake, you don’t go to jail. Venting refrigerant to atmosphere is bad!

My advice is to spend the money on a properly engineered catch can. Basic ones don’t actually “pull” much out nor filter the oil very well. A properly baffled and filtered catch can with a suction line to either your intake manifold or intake pipe is the best way.

Mine’s just an air filter on the vent, there’s one on the valve cover and another at the crank hidden under the carbs. I call the oil that comes out rust proofing ;)

so that is some kind of replacement to oil pan breather?
because on my dad’s car there is a hose that comes from crankcase to camshaft, and from camshaft to air intake
being honest i don’t really understand how that works

Yes you’re essentially replacing the ‘positive crankcase ventilation’ system with a catch can. Both those lines you see on your dad’s car are redirected to the catch can

Right. Got it. This will be the next mod for my rx7. Gotta get that crancase ventilation. 😋

but guys, oil goes into the combustion chamber, it’s only natural! It burns there, no need to catch anything!
spot the rotary guy

My car thinks it’s a rotary, I think I’ve used about 10L oil in a year. I know it’s the cam cover gasket that’s leaking
