I’m a mechanic and i approve this message, i bought a year ago a Mazda 626 from 2000. Automatik, 95,000km, full equiped, 17’ rims, radio, and everything is on it’s place it drives amazing. 600 Euros best investment ever and i drive like a King super comfy while some idiot are proud of buying a new Audi A3 with manual windows for 30K
I had always complained about the condition many costumers brought their mustangs in. Now I have one, interior is bad, dash pieces broken, carpet and seats stained, ripped headliner, but a strong and reliable engine with only 86k miles when I got it for a 1000 bucks.
As a extremely young technician for MINI I have had the pleasure of driving my junky old beat to crap 98 Toyota Corolla. Never break down, never any super major problems other than my right rear hydraulic brake line cracking at the flange to the drum brake. That car was maintenance and for people that know the early 1zz-fe motor topping of oil because it tends to burn a lot of oil if you drive long distance. I also have had the pleasure of driving a brand new car through a dealership employee lease program where I pay 80-150 dollars a month for a a year or 15k miles. Since then sold the Corolla and at the end of my lease picked up a 05 325i for fairly cheap with low miles. I have had the junker, the new car and the somewhat old car. All reliable, all great cars, to me it’s just a matter of preference. As a mechanic/technician you know what cars will last and you know what cars won’t. You know what cars will give major problems and you know what cars won’t. Pick the car that is the easiest to work on that you like and buy used. Say you work for that manufacture you just saved yourself money on parts and hopefully gas depending on the car and saved yourself some time.
