Why Ford Is Making An Epic Le Mans Return With The GT

This month, the Ford GT will be taking on the Le Mans 24 Hours, 50 years after the GT40's legendary win. This documentary takes a behind-the-scenes look at how Ford got to this point

This year marks the 50th anniversary of when Ford rocked up at Le Mans with the GT40, and gave Ferrari a damn good kicking by scoring a spectacular one, two, three finish. What better way to celebrate than to turn up at la Sarthe, and once again give the competition a pasting? That’s exactly what Ford is hoping to do at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year, with its new GT.

In an unusual move, the GT road car and the racing car have been developed simultaneously, and thanks to this new five-part documentary titled The Return, you can get a behind-the-scenes look at what led Ford to this point. Parts one to three are already here - make sure you keep an eye out for when we post parts four and five in the lead up to Le Mans.

The new GT: “I will make my fathers proud”.

not a ford guy in any sense of the word but;
1: The new GT is hella sexy

2: It’s nice to see three american “Supercars” on the market now. Too bad volume constraints wont make a it a viable competitor against the likes of the Viper and ‘Vette but still nice to see.

3: I really really hope they smack Ferrari in the nuts again. The way the Automotice world is revolving the Italians and Germans need to be off their high horse for a little while. The whole overpriced and overplayed “V12 symphony” “beauty” “spiritual” and “Soul” while stagnant needs to take a backseat to progression once again.

Now if we only had a Koenigsegg contender…..

We did, not too long ago with the CCGT, but the FIA changed the rules so it wasn’t elgible, as the other manufacturers were pretty scared of it.

I agree with you on seeing 3 killer cars come from the states. Excited to see how this progresses!

They will beat Ferrari fairly easily… it’s Porsche they should be aiming for.

IMO, the GT is on a level above the Viper and ‘Vette.

Ford GT40 made history with 1,2,3
McLaren F1 made history with 1,2,3
if the new GT goes 1,2,3 then we could call the new GT one of the greatest cars ever made

The original GT and the F1 took 1st, 2nd, 3rd overall. That’s not gunna happen at Le mans this year. As cool as the new GT is, its not gunna beat the Audi and Porsche Prototypes. First in class, maybe.

A skyline? Excuse me? Cool car but let’s ger one thing straight, stock to stock, a skyline would be absolutely destroyed by a ford gt. Even if it’s tuned, that Skyline would need to undergo serious surgery to even get close.

They were the Ferrari killers… too bad there are Corvettes in the field :). Would be pretty sweet to get an American manufacturer 1,2,3

Good to see it back, but I’m worried if it couldn’t stand a chance against Ferrari. It’d be embarrassing if Ford got defeated by Ferrari since the original aim of the Ford GT is to beat Ferrari
