Smart cars get a lot of stick from us lot (almost as much as Hondas, but not quite...). The reason? Smart cars are among the smallest and lightest vehicles on our roads, so are deemed unsafe by those who don't know what's what.

The fact is, Smart cars are very safe thanks to the car's high-strength Tridion steel safety shell, which makes up the bulk of the Smart's chassis. In fact, when Fifth Gear tested the Smart's high speed crash safety, its impressive rigidity shocked even the presenters.
