Why You Need To Start Getting Super Excited For Project Cars 2

While WMD and Slightly Mad Studios are hard at work on Project Cars 2, no one has forgotten about the original. Adding new content to the existing Project Cars game is actually part of a strategy that will help the second instalment start out on the right foot!

While we sit at home enjoying the masterpiece that is Project CARS, thousands of people are already at work on the sequel. Unlike the original, the work on Project CARS 2 has been kept very quiet. Contributors are not allowed under contract to share any information, but that hasn’t stopped a few unnamed folks to spill some details with their favourite car community.

The common expectation for a game sequel is that it will be “bigger and better” than the last. It’s not often the outcome, but you can be sure Project CARS 2 will do just that. The original goal to launch Project CARS 2 with over 125 cars has already been shattered. We’ve confirmed that over 200 models will be included at the time of release, with an estimated 50 new cars to be introduced in the first year through DLC packs and the On Demand programme. The On Demand program is already active for the original game as a way for developers to provide monthly new free content to users based on their feedback in the forums.

To understand how Project CARS 2 will feel compared to the original, imagine Project CARS as a beta test…one giant, functioning, beautifully polished beta test. Each motorsport genre, game mode, car model, track and more has been carefully planned and released at times to measure their impact on the users. The wildly popular content is expanded upon, while the not-so-fascinating content is reworked into something a bit more intriguing for the next release. The apps that compliment Project CARS have been another testing opportunity for developers. Certain elements like those in the improved Crew Chief app will be implemented in the next game from the start.

To the surprise of no one, it was eSports that took the stage in 2015. Slightly Mad Studios had already prepared to introduce Project CARS drivers to worldwide competitions, but it was the partnership with ESL that boosted the competitive spirit to the next level. Now an officially recognised eSport, Project CARS offers several championships throughout the year in which winners will be rewarded with hefty prizes. From day one, Project CARS 2 will have eSport championships easily accessible from the main menu. Races will be expanded from drivers only to entire crews, although it is unclear if full team races will be available from launch. As for the original game, season two of the Driver Network Cup has already been confirmed with even better sponsors and bigger prizes.

Project CARS 2 is expected to be released this year, although it will likely be in December. In addition to the features that have been built upon from the original game, the newest title will also focus on engineering. With Project CARS Academy, players will learn more about how to understand parts, specs and tuning. A customisable track will be included in the base game with the sole purpose of testing your performance beasts before slaying the competition. Our secret source tells us that players should get excited about the new game because it has such a variety of cars and tracks that we’ve never seen before. They add that, “You’ll be able to race in any weather, at any time, on any surface with any type of car against any other players. Total freedom.” Concept cars and banned race cars are just two of the new vehicle types hitting later this year, when the sequel emerges on PS4, PC, Xbox One and Steam OS.

If you’re just dying to get your hands on new content, you don’t have to wait long. Tuesday, 26th January, marks the next expansion: the StanceWorks Track Expansion. This new pack will include Mad Mike’s crazy Mazda Miata, a KTM X-Bow R, a BMW 2002 and a BMW 1-Series M-Coupe. The pack’s new road course in the highlands of Scotland will be the perfect place to test out some of these beauties.

I would suggest that they should follow the same route as Dirt Rally; release the game on Steam Early Access, rely on the community to help craft the perfect experience, add on(s) should be completely free to those who bought the game and raise the price gradually as more content is added until its full release.

I think that is the best way to make sure that this game won’t end up a buggy mess on day 1 like the last time. It worked well for Dirt Rally in my experience and surely it can work if they play their cards right.

if im being completely honest, there have only ever been 2/3 car games that have ever made me say ‘WOW’ upon release, the first is forza 2, the second is GRID which had the best damage models i had ever seen and also a really fun career mode which made you feel like you were progressing, the final game is forza 4 which had awesome graphics and just a general polished appearance.

no other game i have played, especially assetto corsa never lived up to hype and generally are lets down due to requiring another games value to be spent on getting the cars you actually wanted.

For me it’s NfS Underground, after that NfS Carbon, then came GRID. GRID is still one of the best racing games, while I love (the old) NfS for the fun they provided. Neither P.Cars nor The Crew could live up to even half the legacy of these 3 games

Mr. Beerscuit

Biggest disappointment for me last year, they lied about “pCARS will have ongoing development and incremental feature changes and additions” and just after pCARS was out they announced crowdfunding for pCARS 2. That made me so angry. The game was still buggy as hell and they want more money for another game to add features that they said they would add on to the current game… wtf. I bought the game looking for the longevity they said it would have.

Bugs in the game made me ragequit so often that after the last ragequit I never installed it again and I’m not really a guy that ragequit often in games. You do your perfect race and like 30 minutes of gaming wasted because of a bug, them restart and waste more 30 minutes because of bugs…
If you want prove of their lies just jump to 23:00 in this video interview.

For me PCARS was just a upgrade from Shift 2 and Shift 2 was way better even if the physics is not great it had a OK progression system.
You can actually feel how downforce is simulated on pCARS its just identical to how Shift 2 was.
