Why You Need To Start Getting Super Excited For Project Cars 2

While WMD and Slightly Mad Studios are hard at work on Project Cars 2, no one has forgotten about the original. Adding new content to the existing Project Cars game is actually part of a strategy that will help the second instalment start out on the right foot!

While we sit at home enjoying the masterpiece that is Project CARS, thousands of people are already at work on the sequel. Unlike the original, the work on Project CARS 2 has been kept very quiet. Contributors are not allowed under contract to share any information, but that hasn’t stopped a few unnamed folks to spill some details with their favourite car community.

The common expectation for a game sequel is that it will be “bigger and better” than the last. It’s not often the outcome, but you can be sure Project CARS 2 will do just that. The original goal to launch Project CARS 2 with over 125 cars has already been shattered. We’ve confirmed that over 200 models will be included at the time of release, with an estimated 50 new cars to be introduced in the first year through DLC packs and the On Demand programme. The On Demand program is already active for the original game as a way for developers to provide monthly new free content to users based on their feedback in the forums.

To understand how Project CARS 2 will feel compared to the original, imagine Project CARS as a beta test…one giant, functioning, beautifully polished beta test. Each motorsport genre, game mode, car model, track and more has been carefully planned and released at times to measure their impact on the users. The wildly popular content is expanded upon, while the not-so-fascinating content is reworked into something a bit more intriguing for the next release. The apps that compliment Project CARS have been another testing opportunity for developers. Certain elements like those in the improved Crew Chief app will be implemented in the next game from the start.

To the surprise of no one, it was eSports that took the stage in 2015. Slightly Mad Studios had already prepared to introduce Project CARS drivers to worldwide competitions, but it was the partnership with ESL that boosted the competitive spirit to the next level. Now an officially recognised eSport, Project CARS offers several championships throughout the year in which winners will be rewarded with hefty prizes. From day one, Project CARS 2 will have eSport championships easily accessible from the main menu. Races will be expanded from drivers only to entire crews, although it is unclear if full team races will be available from launch. As for the original game, season two of the Driver Network Cup has already been confirmed with even better sponsors and bigger prizes.

Project CARS 2 is expected to be released this year, although it will likely be in December. In addition to the features that have been built upon from the original game, the newest title will also focus on engineering. With Project CARS Academy, players will learn more about how to understand parts, specs and tuning. A customisable track will be included in the base game with the sole purpose of testing your performance beasts before slaying the competition. Our secret source tells us that players should get excited about the new game because it has such a variety of cars and tracks that we’ve never seen before. They add that, “You’ll be able to race in any weather, at any time, on any surface with any type of car against any other players. Total freedom.” Concept cars and banned race cars are just two of the new vehicle types hitting later this year, when the sequel emerges on PS4, PC, Xbox One and Steam OS.

If you’re just dying to get your hands on new content, you don’t have to wait long. Tuesday, 26th January, marks the next expansion: the StanceWorks Track Expansion. This new pack will include Mad Mike’s crazy Mazda Miata, a KTM X-Bow R, a BMW 2002 and a BMW 1-Series M-Coupe. The pack’s new road course in the highlands of Scotland will be the perfect place to test out some of these beauties.

Anyone who gets hyped up for PC2 needs a harsh reminder…. Project Cars was an unfinished, buggy mess of a game at launch (and still is, to some extent). It also had a poor car selection (with no modifications of any sort), poor controls (especially on consoles) that made it a chore to drive certain cars, and a terrible menu interface that was hard to navigate.

What REALLY makes me mad is that, rather than fix the issues with the first game, they’re just jumping right into the next one! Hell, they had started working on PC2 BEFORE the first one even launched! And, rather than add in extra content for free over time, content which was sorely lacking when the game first launched, they decided to release DLC totaling $40, JUST to get a full game’s worth of content!!!

I’m sorry but, no, I will NOT be getting excited for project Cars 2 after the hype disaster that was the first one. Once they prove that they can release a game worth the asking price right from the get-go, THEN I might be interested.

To be fair, this is not eclusive to PCARS, every game is a product that needs to generate income. We can fantasize about perfect devs making a perfect sim for years but it will not happen. Dirt Rally came as an interesting surprise in that regard, one purchase only, continued free support and content. PCARS and AC are going the Battlefield/Forza kind of thing where fixes take a back seat and paid DLC rules the day.

No. I will not get excited for PCars 2. Stop the hype. PCars was an utter disappointment as a racing game. It literally didn’t deliver as they said it would. Buggy, crappy physics (apparently they forgot joysticks exist too), and enough DLCs content to make Battlefield players feel good about themselves. Reason why everyone got the first game? The hype. What you’re doing now is endorsing a product you know doesn’t deserve it, but you’re doing it anyway. Losing credibility quickly.

buggy ? so you you’ve found a bugs, then why not go to the forum that are free for everyone ( or you think you need to buy the game to be able to register because you’re using a pirate? ) and then report it ? instead of goin’ to the internet where the place you only brave and bash the game to give it a bad reputation. and when a new patch came out, you will start complaining about those bugs you’ve found that still never been fixed ? oh come on..

physics is crappy because you can’t play it on your fancy joystick ? this is not The Crew, Need for Speed, or Forza bro :D

Yes. Report a bug and show just a little bit of disappointment in that post and you’ll get either ignored or a nice answer of one those diehard fans or mods. We complained multiple times about the netcode and the wiggly movement of pad drivers. Nothing changed ever since and our league was aborted after 2 month of trying and waiting.

I’ve never understood the amount of criticism the game gets, it’s like half of the people slamming the game haven’t played it or even seen proper gameplay because o haven’t or rarely encounter many of the “horrific” bugs claimed to make the game unplayable. I understand the frustration with playing on console but if you want a racing game to play with a tiny controller instead of an expensive wheel and pedal setup then don’t go for a full on sim. The pre release was absolute crap but hadn’t even been finished or made for release but my experience with the full release has been pretty smooth so I’m not sure if I’m lucky or if other people are angry at the game because they over hyped themselves. As with the ‘short’ car list, it’s actually robot that bad of a lineup and ESPECIALLY for the quality of every single aspect of the models, they are beautiful and sound amazing. If people want a ridiculously huge list of cars, have a look at what happened to GT6; a properly funded studio who need up with half of the cars ported badly from previous games and the rest sounding like lawn mowers. Also if you want mods for cars go play an arcade racer.

I’m in the development forum of Project Cars 2, and I have to say that most of the things the author claims as facts are totally nonsense. Most of those “facts” are just things being planned or considered. There is no statement that the game will be released this year (it will probably be released in two years, at least thats the plan), or that it will contain 200 cars.
