Wiping Out At 140mph Will Do This To A Ferrari 458

This is all that remains of a Ferrari 458 driven by an employee of a transport company in Birmingham, Alabama.

Zero 2 Turbo reports that the 458 was being driven at 140mph when the driver lost control, slamming into a post. The impact was severe enough to rip the car in half, leaving the cabin detached from the engine and rear wheels.

While it looks bad, the car is actually designed to split, in order to dissipate the enormous energy involved in an incident like this. The report suggests that the driver is in a coma and the passenger suffered serious injuries, though the information appears vague.

For an inexperienced driver, this Prancing Horse could be a handful. The Italia has a mid-mounted 4.5-litre V8 that produces 562bhp and completes the 0-60mph sprint in 3.3 seconds, topping out at 202mph.

Lamborghini Aventador in half 1

The story reminds us of the Lamborghini Aventador that split in half in Brooklyn earlier in the year. In that incident, an inattentive driver side-swiped the Lambo, sending it crashing into a concrete wall. CCTV footage shows the car's engine and rear wheels breaking free from the cockpit.
