Woman Charged For Driving Way Too Slowly On North America's Busiest Motorway

It’s not often that you hear about people getting pulled over for driving under the speed limit. But it’s a safety hazard that the police in Canada don’t take lightly, especially when it occurs on Ontario Highway 401 - the busiest motorway in North America.

On Wednesday evening, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received calls from angry motorists about a car driving at a snail’s pace on Highway 401, southwest of the Canadian capital city of Ottawa. With the slow-moving vehicle’s high beams burning into the eyes of surrounding traffic, the OPP attempted to pull the sluggish motorist over. Apparently, that didn’t work.

“After some precarious attempts, officers had to make a tandem stop with a cruiser in the front and rear of the vehicle to safely assist movement off the highway,” the OPP stated in a media release on Thursday.

The driver, a 47-year-old woman from the Ottawa area, was clocked doing 40kmh (25mph) in the outside lane. Apparently, she thought the speed limit on the 401 was 50kmh (32mph). She couldn’t have been more wrong - it’s actually 100kmh (62mph).

The OPP ticketed the slow-moving motorist for failing to obey road signs, failure to provide proof of insurance and, of course, driving at an excessively slow speed.

No, he got a ticket for doing 37mph in a 30mph zone. The lady was doing 25mph in 62mph zone.

No you bloody idiot it’s dangerous driving that’s what it is, if you’re driving 25 while other drivers are doing 60 you are an accident waiting to be caused. If she took this to court she would loose, this isn’t the first time this has happened.

The limit shows the recommended speed.
If you drive way over or way under it, you’re a threat in traffic

Highways have minimum speeds for safety’s sake, as well. She was rightfully ticketed because she was traveling below the minimum speed.

Minimal speed was made to avoid having to big of speed difference. Over 40kph difference, you aren’t supposed to overtake for safety concern if a hit happen. It’s only logical than no one would let drive at a near stop speed on the higway. Test it as a pedestrian. You walk, somebody hit you hard from the back while runing at full speed

Woman: Officer you outta your mind? Slower is safer!
Officer: (Bruh) Usain Bolt can run faster than you drive on the motorway…
Woman: ??? So what’s the point?
Officer: If you drive slower than some people can run with their own feet than somebody will smash into your car and you could be injured…
Woman: Oh… I didn’t know that…
Officer: You being sarcastic?
Woman: What is sarcastic?
Officer: Oh ok your IQ is under 80… Just pay the ticket and walk the sidewalk to home… Tell someone to drive your car home instead…

People who do this should be getting points on their licenses too! Arguably more dangerous to other road users than speeding I reckon!
