World's First Arabic Supercar Is Veyron Fast And Wickedly Futuristic

The Arab world is famed for its love of supercars, but it's never built one - until now...

The typical supercar has an unusual life. For every one example that's bought and hooned well, another five end up being either pootled around the streets of Dubai, shipped to London for the summer, or shut in an underground garage by a caliph as a collector's piece. We make 'em, they buy 'em; until now...

Enter W Motors, the first Arabian supercar builder. The company was founded in Beirut by Sari El Khalil and company chairman Ralph Debbas, but has since moved to Dubai. Debbas is a graduate of Coventry University, the institution also responsible for Nik Smart who designed the Ariel Atom. Good credentials!

Their Lykan Hypersport was first touted last year but has since gone beyond the paper stage, making a surprise appearance at the Qatar Motor Show in January. While it has yet to demonstrate its performance, the on-paper stats make for interesting reading:

Engine: 3.8 litre twin turbo Boxer 6Power: 740hp Torque: 737lb ft0-62mph: 2.8secTop speed: 245mph

Using a carbonfibre body - designed and built by Magna Steyr, the Austrian company behind the Aston Martin Rapide - and an RUF-sourced Porsche engine, the HyperSport pushes all the right buttons. Only there aren't any buttons to push; the display is a virtual, 3D holographic affair. Oh and the LED headlights have diamonds in them and all of the seven buyers will receive a special edition, £125,000 Cyrus Klepcys watch. Did we mention the gold stitched leather seats?

If you're one of the lucky buyers, the Hypersport will set you back £2.2 million - but don't worry if you're not on the shortlist because a planned Supersport model is due next year. Only time will tell if this super-exclusive new model will succeed or join the ranks of the world's best forgotten supercars...
