You Can Buy A Subaru Impreza RB320 Once Owned By Richard Burns' Co-Driver
There were countless special-edition versions of the Subaru Impreza over the years, like the P1, the GB270 and the halo 22B. But the RB320 is one that stands out, and a very special example is coming up for sale in November.
The RB320 was introduced in 2007 to celebrate the life of 2001 WRC winner Richard Burns. He died in late 2005, and Subaru thought it fitting to create a special model dedicated to him. As you might have guessed from the name, the RB320’s 2.5-litre Boxer engine was wound out to 320bhp, which gave it a 0-62mph time of just 4.7 seconds – the same as a Volkswagen Golf R – and a top speed of 158mph.
Elsewhere, the RB320 received an exclusive chassis setup that was much improved over the standard model. Bilstein dampers and Eibach springs were fitted as standard, giving a lowered stance and much better handling through the corners. New alloy wheels, a mesh grille and a jutting front splitter were introduced, alongside a special badge on the bootlid that meant you could tell it apart from all the other special editions. All RB320s were painted black.
This particular RB320 was once owned by Robert Reid, Burn’s co-driver. Reid and Burns were partners for 12 years, and came runners up in the 1999 and 2000 world rally championships, before winning the title in 2001.
The car only has 1400 miles on the clock and, as a special bonus, comes with an extra spoiler that has been signed by rally royalty. Reid, Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Petter Solberg, Hannu Mikkola and Malcolm Wilson have all added their signatures to the spoiler.
Due to go under the hammer at Silverstone Auctions’ NEC Classic Motor Show sale on 9-10 November, the RB320 is estimated to go for around £30,000 - 35,000. If you’re interested in the final generation of Impreza, you’ll also be interested in a 2017 WRX STI Final Edition with just 110 miles under its wheels which is available at the same event
